CJ by Cookie Johnson: Oprah’s New Favorite Curvy Jeans

Move over PZI Jeans – you have competition in the market for jeans for curvy women! March 2009 saw the launch of CJ Jeans by Cookie Johnson for the curvy lady (in case you’re unaware Cookie Johnson is the wife of famed basketball player Earving “Magic” Johnson).  These jeans are available in sizes 2-18 and designed for women who have a figure like Cookie herself – fit but curvy.

You may be familiar with the woes that Cookie Johnson herself has in finding jeans that fit curvy figures. She said of her frustrating shopping trips: “I couldn’t find jeans to fit my body type,” she explains. “It frustrated me to try on every pair in the store and leave with nothing.” Once Cookie realized that her frustrations were common to slim, curvy women all over, she used her enterprising spirit to launch a brand of curvy women’s jeans that would fill the void in the marketplace.

Oprah Winfrey herself put the stamp of approval on these denim jeans calling them her “new favorite jeans” and “just as comfortable as slacks.”

The truth is that CJ by Cookie Johnson is not the first line of jeans to appeal to women with curvy hips, thighs, and butts. As a matter of fact, its direct competitor, PZI Jeans, was launched several years prior. While PZI Jeans claims to hold the title for best jeans for curvy women, CJ by Cookie Johnson was indeed the first to get an endorsement from one of the most powerful, successful women alive, Oprah Winfrey.

You can find many styles of CJ Jeans to choose from, including Love (the boyfriend jean), Faith (the straight leg jean), Grace (the bootcut jean), Joy (the denim leggings), and Mercy (cropped jeans). Also these jeans are a bit pricier than its competitor PZI Jeans – expect to pay close to $150 for CJ Jeans versus the $80 price tag for PZI Jeans.
